Getting back into hosting!

Comments (0)

So I applied for an opening at a rather high-end web hosting company (no names for now) and I had a phone interview on Thursday with essentially the HR person (although she does many jobs in all intents and purposes this was the HR interview). I had to answer some basic Linux questions and then perform the "HR" questions then spent a little while asking her questions about the company and such. I learned a lot about it and am even more excited about this job than originally, but more on that later. They are hiring 2 techs so I think I have a decent shot.

I apparently did well (or at least I didn't do bad, I think I did great) so now I have the technical interview next week which consists of a more difficult technical test and then a hands-on test where they provide me a server and give me tasks to perform to show my skills in command line. I'm really excited about this because I've never been able to display or test my Linux skills before, even in my Linux class I always had to "dumb it down" for the instructors.

So now about the company and how great it is...

They've been in business since 2003 but were bought in 2010 by somebody who is extremely well known in the hosting scene (founder of one of, if not the, biggest hosting company in the world). They own 2 other hosting brands so they are pretty big and growing. The environment seems excellent and it's exactly the kind of company I would spend the rest of my years working for. They are located in Atlanta, GA but I can work remotely from home and I can continue working at Raymond James but depending on the pay I might now want to (and their benefits are much better).

The downside to all of this is that I cannot work at any other hosting company so I would have to say goodbye to free web hosting forever. :(

Of course if all of this falls through I purchased a reseller account at www.HostATree.com (dropping one of my GigeNETCloud VMs due to costs) and have started moving some of my sites over to that account. I hope to have it up and running by the end of the weekend but I won't get started with any type of hosting until I find out about the possible job mentioned earlier.

Wish me luck!
